Embark onboard the drunken boat… and Bateau Ivre’s Post-Apocalyptic Indie Folk Pop will conjure up images of barren deserts, mist-shrouded jungles and stormy seas. The words take you to the depths of human existence between hope and despair. Paul, Nick and Tobi create a timeless backdrop incorporating guitar-pop and Yiddish folk songs, ambient electronics and contemporary classical music, against which Paul’s wistful voice, reminiscent of Jeff Buckley and Thom Yorke, rises from mysterious murmurs to emotional falsettos.
Bateau Ivre began as a solo project in Berlin in 2009, when Paul started recording songs by himself, resulting in the eponymous debut album, released in April 2011. In Fall 2012, Bateau Ivre became a trio when Paul met Nick and Tobi in Munich. Their first collaboration, the single “Like Walking Ghosts”, was released in April 2013, followed by concerts in Munich and Berlin. The band then started recording new songs over a period of two years, in various locations across Germany, France and Congo. The album „Somewhere Nowhere“, released in July 2015, features several guest musicians and singers, as well as sounds recorded in the African rainforest. In Summer 2016, the band got together at the historical Funkhaus Berlin to record their third album „Wormholes“, released in January 2017. Recorded mostly live, it has a warmer and brighter mood than its predecessors.
